Yoga Is Your Menopause BFF

Menopause can be pretty crazy!

Hot flashes, increased anxiety, fatigue, joint pain...although it's not all doom and gloom, menopause can be pretty challenging for women.

But here's the good news: yoga can be an amazing tool to help you navigate your menopausal journey with more ease and grace, I mean without going around punching people! 😂

Yoga has so many benefits for women over 40, especially if you’re pre or postmenopausal!

Whether you’re just starting to notice symptoms or are already postmenopausal, incorporating yoga into your self-care routine can make a huge difference.

I don't know where I'd be without it!

First, let’s talk about yoga for stress relief.

A common challenge during menopause is dealing with increased stress and anxiety...some women even start to get panic attacks when they've never had them before (hand up me 🙋‍♀️).

Yoga, with its emphasis on mind-body movement and deep breathing, helps calm the nervous system, helping you manage your stress and anxiety, giving you a sense of peace and grounding.

I can't tell you how many people tell me that they start yoga class feeling stressed and anxious and end the class feeling much calmer and more peaceful.

Even just 10 minutes a day can help lower cortisol levels, leaving you feeling calmer and more at ease.

When you feel grounded, those sudden menopause-induced emotional shifts are a lot easier to manage.

Then there’s the issue of sleep.

Many women find it way harder to sleep well once they hit menopause, whether it’s due to night sweats, adrenaline surges or simply feeling restless.

Yoga, especially restorative poses and gentle stretches before bed, can promote better sleep by relaxing both your body and mind.

By making yoga a part of your nightly routine, you might find it easier to fall and stay asleep.

Another huge benefit of yoga for women over 40 during menopause is how it helps relieve joint aches and pains.

As estrogen levels drop, we become more vulnerable to joint pain, as well as muscle and bone loss.

Gentle movement, strengthening and stretching are super important at this time of our lives to keep our joints, muscles and bones strong.

Incorporating weight-bearing poses, like Warrior one, two or three or balancing poses like Tree pose, helps strengthen bones and muscles.

Plus, regular practice keeps your joints flexible, which is so important as we age.

Finally, another important benefit of yoga for women over 40 is that yoga offers connection and community.

Whether you’re practicing in a studio or enjoying your favorite online classes, yoga reminds us that we’re not alone.

So, if menopause is madding you, meet me on the mat.

Your body (and mind) will thank you!
