How I Went from Struggling to Exercise to Moving My Body Every Day (Even Post Menopause)
Before and after losing 20 pounds after 40
Struggling to Exercise Post Menopause?
Let me tell you a little secret: I wasn’t always the active, consistent exerciser I am today.
Even though I’m a yoga teacher, it doesn’t mean I’ve always been great at practising yoga regularly for myself.
In fact, I used to struggle just like you might be—especially as I navigated menopause and all the fun stuff being post menopause brings!
Fitting yoga into my day felt like a constant battle.
I really wanted to wake up and move my body/do yoga in the mornings, but it felt hard to find the time and even harder to find the willpower.
If you’re a woman over 40, you know how menopause can make everything feel a little more challenging— from low energy to aching joints and restless sleep. I was right there with you.
Honestly, the “starting and stopping” game was exhausting. I’d get motivated for a week, maybe two, but then life would get in the way—hot flashes, fatigue, and all. Sound familiar?
One day, I decided enough was enough.
I couldn’t keep doing the same thing over and over, hoping for a different result (yes, I was living the definition of insanity!).
So I decided to try something different. And it worked.
What Changed Everything for Me
The big shift? Accountability.
I realized I needed something, or someone, to keep me consistent—something bigger than just my own willpower.
That’s when I committed to teaching an 8 am Morning Movement and Yoga class every weekday on Zoom.
By scheduling that class, I made a promise to my students to show up for them!
And once I had that accountability, it was no longer just about me.
My students were counting on me to show up, so I did. And guess what? Showing up for them helped me show up for myself too.
Now, my mornings look like this:
I wake up and exercise every morning (even though I’m not naturally a morning person!)
I do yoga for at least 20 minutes each day - the class is called MORNING MOVEMENT AND YOGA as it also includes a simple warm-up and cool down (yup all in 20 minutes!).
By 8:20 am, I feel energized, accomplished, and ready to tackle my day—no matter what menopause throws my way.
It’s amazing how having a little accountability can transform your routine.
Why Accountability Matters for Women in Menopause
When it comes to self-care and wellness post-menopause, accountability can make all the difference.
Think about it: how many times have you told yourself, “I’ll start tomorrow” or “I’ll just skip today”?
When there’s no one else holding you to your goals, it’s just too easy to
”not do it today.”
But post-menopause, staying consistent with exercise and movement isn’t just about feeling good—it’s essential for managing symptoms like joint pain, low energy, and stress.
Plus, regular movement can support bone health, balance, and flexibility—all key areas for women over 40.
When you know someone is counting on you, it’s harder to skip out.
Whether it’s a workout buddy, a coach, or a group class, having that accountability creates consistency—and consistency is what leads to real progress.
