Chair Yoga - Perfect For Women Who Can’t Get Up Off The Floor

If you can’t get up and down off the floor but want to do yoga, chair yoga is for you!

I’m passionate about making yoga accessible to everybody!

I believe that yoga is for everybody and every body! Yoga is for all ages and all body types. You don’t have to be fit, strong or flexible. You don't even have to be able to get up and down off the floor. This is why I am offering a new live yoga class every week: chair yoga.

In chair yoga, we are predominantly sitting down, with some standing poses. Even with the standing poses though, we will use the chair for support.

Chair yoga is for people who need a bit more support, who don’t want to be getting up and down off the floor, or for people who just want to learn new poses to do while sitting down. Chair yoga is not only for seniors! Many of us spend hours sitting at our desks all day, and it is helpful to learn poses to do while sitting to relieve back and neck pain.

The benefits of chair yoga are the same as all yoga classes. Chair yoga strengthens your core, as just by sitting upright and practicing proper posture you are strengthening your core muscles. Not only can chair yoga strengthen your whole body but it also improves flexibility and helps you to manage stress. So, don’t think because you’re not a senior you won’t benefit!

Nonetheless, chair yoga is a great way for seniors to do yoga. If you are intimidated by other yoga classes, this is for you. You won’t have to get up and down off the floor, and when standing, you will have the chair to hold on to for support and balance.

Chair yoga will also help you improve your balance, coordination and proprioception, which is understanding where your body is in space.

My chair yoga class is every Thursday morning at 11am Eastern/Jamaica time on Zoom. Email me at karinyogalife@gmail.com to join us!
